Women are commonly considered non-functional in our society. They are not given due role nor responsibility. CDeF has led a pilot project during 2016-17 with them providing a space to use their indigenous skills and create local handicrafts during polite phase of 8-months. They have made extra ordinary performance and creativity in designing fascinating handicrafts which include pottery, basket weaving, shawls, embroidered/khussa shoes, oriental rugs, clutch purse, killum bag, carpeted shoulder bag, Leather bag, ladies purse, mobile pouches, ladies bag, embroidered stitched suits for kids, floor cushion. These are the indigenous skills that inherited through generations.
Expected Outcomes
This replicable project using recycle-items results in a very captivating crafts products. It also shows that these women can be very functional if they are given proper training for economic productivity and social participation. The domain of the project is extremely innovative, because indigenous crafts skills needs to be modernized the subject and its importance in managing women sustainable livelihood. The results also formed the foundations for functionality through indigenous arts and crafts.
