Q: Where is the Conference being held?

Q: What clothes should I pack for the weather in Kaohsiung in November?

The average temperature of Kaohsiung in November is 21°C to 29 °C, and it tends to be sunny. We would recommend short sleeve clothes and thin coat. You can also check the forecast online.

Q: What is the currency used in Taiwan? Will I be able to use my dollars or credit card and where can I exchange my currency?

The Taiwan currency name is “New Taiwan Dollar“, shortened as NTD or NT$. The current exchange rates of the Taiwan Dollar are the following (always updated): 1 USD = 30.80 TWD. Q: How to get to the venue from city center?

KMRT

  1. Sanduo Shopping District Station is the closest to KEC.
  2. It's a 10-minute walk from Exit 2.

Taxi

You can take a taxi on the street or from Hotel. The taxi fee should be paid by cash or easy card. (you can top up at the convenient store)

Q: How do I get to the venue from the Taoyuan International airport?

Taiwan High Speed Rail connects from Taipei in 1 hour and 30 minutes. Terminal in Kaohsiung is Zuoying Station: a 20-minute taxi ride to KEC. Or take the Kaohsiung Rapid Transit (KRT) to Sanduo Shopping District Station (R8) which is then a 10-minute walk to KEC. Since 2016 KEC has its own stop on the Light Railway (C8), connecting to the malls in the south of the city, Love River and to the KRT network. The cost of an average HSR ticket from Taoyuan to Zuoying is NT$1,330 (US$43).

Q: How to get to the KEC from the Kaohsiung International Airport?

By Metro: Kaohsiung International Airport Station (R2) take the metro to Sanduo Shopping District Station (R8), which is 10 minutes walk to KEC.

Q: How do I get to my hotel from Kaohsiung International Airport?

Recommended conference hotels are all easily accessible from Kaohsiung International Airport by taxi or metro. If you are staying at the Howard Plaza Kaohsiung, a taxi will cost between NT$195-250 (US$6-8) and take about 20 minutes depending on the traffic. The metro will also take 20 minutes to get to Formosa Boulevard Station, which is another 10 minutes walk from the hotel, and cost NT$35 (US$1).

Q: How can I get a taxi at KEC?

You can ask the information counter of KEC to get a taxi for you. (Located near the front door)

Q: I would like to travel around Taiwan after the conference, where can I get more information about Taiwan.

Q: Are there any restaurants or convenience stores at the venue?

Yes, located on the West end of KEC’s Central Boulevard, Messe Bistro offers a fine selection of mostly German dishes, great drinks and fresh draft German Warsteiner beer. There are many restaurants and department stores located near Sanduo Shopping District Station, which is 10-minute walk from the venue.

Here are some suggestions for nice restaurants around the Howard Plaza Hotel area:

  • Hotel Dua is an elegant restaurant that serves Cantonese dimsum, average meals are NT$800-1000 per person, it is 750m from the Howard Plaza (9-min walk). Groups can book a private room.
  • Smokey Joe's is a Tex-Mex restaurant, average meals are NT$600-700 per person, 850m (10-min walk) from the Howard Plaza. There are no private rooms, but the relaxed atmosphere makes it a good choice for a farewell meal with friends you made at 4WCWS.
  • Chef Teng (鄧師傅) is a popular local Taiwanese chain, specializing in marinated beef, fatty pork, and pig knuckles. The average meal is NT$300-500 per person. The second floor has seating for 26 people. 40m (5-min walk) from the Howard Plaza. 

Q: Where can I find something to drink?

Tea and coffee are provided all day long during the conference. You can also find a bar at the first floor of the venue.

Q: What is the average price for a meal in Kaohsiung?

The average price for eating in a cheap restaurant is between NT$120-300 (US$4-10). The price gets higher if you go to a high level restaurant.

Q: Do I need to apply an e-visa to enter Taiwan?

Nationals from many countries are eligible for visa exemption or landing visa. Please see visa application to check what visa you need to enter Taiwan. When you register for the conference, please check the e-visa box.

Q: Will you provide an invitation letter for my visa application?

If you require an official letter of invitation please apply at least six weeks prior to the conference, by  Sep. 15, 2019. 4WCWS will provide letters of invitation upon request only to participants with registration paid in full.

  • The letter of invitation will be emailed to you as a scanned document (.pdf-format).
  • Should it be necessary to send the original letter of invitation by post, you must bear all costs for the postal dispatch. For this purpose we will send you a separate payment link and give you a tracking number after the letter has been sent.

Q: Do I need to take any vaccination to visit Taiwan?

You do not need anything more than routine vaccination to visit Taiwan. Check your local health information provides for details.

Q: When does registration open?

Online registration is now closed.

Q: Can I still register for conference?

You can register and pay on site.

Q:What are the onsite registration hours?

  • Tue, Nov 5 - 9 a.m. ~ 5 p.m.  (1st Floor of KEC)
  • Wed, Nov 6 - 8 a.m. ~ 5 p.m.  (3rd Floor of KEC)

Q:What is included in registration?

The full registration fee includes all plenary, workshops, gala dinner (Nov 5), lunches (Nov 6-8), and study tour (Nov 8)

Q:What meals are provided?

  • Nov 5 first day of conference, a gala dinner for full registration participants.
  • Nov 6 tea and coffee all day, lunch and breakout tea time.
  • Nov 7 tea and coffee all day, lunch and breakout tea time.

Q:When will the gala dinner be held? Where is the location?

The gala dinner on Nov 5 (Tue) 17:30-20:00 will be held at the outside setting of the grand plaza at the 4WCWS venue, Kaohsiung Exhibition Center (KEC). The dress theme is "something purple".

Q:When is the deadline for registration?

1st Oct., 2019

Q:My proposal for workshop has been selected, should I register?

Yes, if you are making a presentation at the conference, it is essential that you register according to the author registration deadline of Apr. 30th. If you do not register by this date, your material will be automatically excluded from the final conference program.

Q:Is it possible to register for one day at a reduced rate?

Day registration is possible with but receptions tickets or discounts are not included.

Q: I have completed the online registration form. When should I expect to receive confirmation?

All registrations are confirmed by email after you have completed the online booking process. You will receive confirmation of your booking by email. If you do not receive this email please contact the conference secretariat to confirm your booking is in place.

Q: What are the various deadlines for registration?

  • October 5, 2018: Call for proposals opens
  • October 5, 2018: Scholarship applications open
  • November 2018: Registration opens
  • January 14, 2019: Deadline for proposals and scholarship applications
  • April 15, 2019: Early early-bird registration closes (extension)

Q: Are there additional charges to the registration fee?

Your registration fee must be paid as part of the registration process. You will be asked to pay online by credit card/PayPal: (A 4.4% service fee charged by PayPal will be added to the above.) You can also pay by wire transfer: A US$7 incoming international wire fee will be added to each transaction. Please note that you should pay the outgoing bank transfer fee (typically US$20) by yourself. After making the payment, please send us proof of transfer – either a receipt, pay slip or screenshot from your online bank that clearly shows your name and account number. Q:I need a receipt for my registration. What should I do?

Please email to 4wcwsinfo@goh.org.tw and you will receive a proof of payment. 

Q:Will I automatically get a receipt for my registration fee?

No. When you have registered and paid online you will be sent confirmation of your booking. To get a receipt, please contact the Conference Secretariat.

Q:Will I get a proof of payment when I arrive at the conference?

Yes, please contact information desk.

Q: Do all attendees need to register for the conference?

Yes, all attendees must register for the 4th World Conference of Women’s Shelters, regardless of whether they are participating in sessions and events.

Q: What special events will take place during the conference?

Please refer to program.

Q:If I have registered, how do I check in at the conference?

All participants will receive a pre-departure notice letter three weeks before the conference.

All participants will receive a pre-departure notice letter three weeks before the conference.  

Q:Are there any special discounts on registration?

Yes, the Full Conference Registrationfee is USD500 (after Sep 1, 2019).  We offer Early-Early-Bird Registration for USD250(by Apr. 15, 2019). Early-Bird Registration for USD350 (by Aug 31, 2019). For a group discount, please write 4wcwsadmin@goh.org.tw

Q: I do not have a pay pal account, can I use my debit card or cheque to pay?

We are sorry, we only accept pay pal/credit card, and wire transfer.

Q: Are hotel and meals included in the conference registration fee?

Lunches, coffee breaks and a gala dinner are included in the registration fe.  Hotel accommodation is not. Please make your own hotel and childcare reservations. Please see information about making reservations at our recommended conference hotels here.

Q: Which receptions are open to all attendees?

The Gala Dinner Reception (Tue, Nov 5, 2019, 18:00 – 20:30) is open to all overseas delegates who paid for the registration fee, scholarship recipients & Taiwanese delegates who have paid for Gala Dinner.

Q: Where is the location of the Lost and Found?

Go to the third floor secretariat.

Q: What kind of seating will be available at events for those with mobility needs, or who are unable to stand for long periods of time?

There will be seating marked Reserved for Accessible Seating at all plenaries. All events and receptions will have seating available for those who are unable to stand for long periods of time.

No. there are limited slots for Exhibition booths, and we strongly suggest that you apply as soon as possible.

Q: Can I get a direct flight to Kaohsiung?

Yes, there are some direct flights from Asian major cities to Kaohsiung, departed from Hong Kong, Macau, Manila, Ho Chi Ming City, Bangkok, Hanoi, Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Narita Airport, Busan and other airports.

Q: What airport should I fly into?

Both Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) and Kaohsiung International Airport (KHH). If you land in Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), the fastest way to Kaohsiung is to take the High Speed Rail, which takes 1.5hrs or 2hrs. (from Taoyuan to Zuoying (Kaohsiung Station.)

Q: I am a vegetarian (Vegan), will you prepare meals for vegetarians?

We try to fulfill different kind of demand from the attendee, and prepare those meals differently. Please ask the staff and tell them your needs.

Q: If I don’t want to attend study tour, can I get the refund?

The study tour fee is included in your registration which is non-refundable.

Q: Do I have to choose a route for study tour?

Yes. Please choose one route upon receiving our survey. Considering limited capacity of the tour, please register for the study tour as early as possible to ensure your space.

Q: What is the means of transportation for the study tours? Will lunch be provided?

We will arrange a tour bus for different routes. Yes, lunch will be provided.


Proposal/Program(Seminar/Workshop)

Q: Is the program conducted in English?

The official conference language is English. The plenary sessions will have simultaneous translation in Chinese, French, Spanish and Japanese. In the breakout sessions you can present a workshop or paper in any language, but please note there will be no translation service. For non-English applicants, please provide your own translation or feel free to apply to give a workshop in your language of choice - though this may limit your audience.

Q: Can I attend any plenary or workshop that I am interested in?

Yes, plenaries are opened for everyone. Spaces for workshop are limited. You can join a workshop only if there is available seating.

Q: What types of sessions or workshops are being offered?

Q: Can presenters use slides?

Yes. Each session room is equipped with a projector, laptop, screen, podium, and microphone. Additional equipment such as flip charts and simultaneous interpretation will be available at the presenter’s expense.

Q:I don’t like those hotel provided on the website, can I book other hotels I find on the internet?

There are a number of cheap and cheerful hotels and youth hostels in Kaohsiung for the budget traveler. However, most hostels tend to be unregistered and can close down without warning, so regrettably we cannot give any recommendations here.


Scholarship

Q: If my proposal has been accepted, does that mean my scholarship application had been accepted as well?

No. We received a large number of high quality and excellent applications, and due to limitations in the conference venue and intense competition, we were not able to accept all of them.   If your scholarship application had been accepted, the announcement email had been sent out to your email.

Q: How do I know if my scholarship application has been accepted?

Q: How and when can I get my scholarship?  

We will inform you via email how you will be reimbursed/covered.

Q: Does a scholarship also cover the living cost?

Please note sponsorships do not include visa or e-visa fees, travel insurance, local transportation to and from the airport, or High Speed Rail from Taoyuan International Airport to Kaohsiung.
