Kamla Bhasin / India

Biography: 
Kamla Bhasin is an Indian developmental feminist, activist, poet, author, and social scientist. Bhasin’s work focuses on gender, education, human development, media, human rights and peace. In particular, Bhasin acts as a tireless advocate for Indian and South Asian women and their right to equality.

Bhasin is associated with Sangat-A Feminist Network, Jagori Resource and Training Centre, New Delhi, and Jagori Rural Charitable Trust. Her main work has been capacity building of feminist activists, networking and campaigning. She is the Global Co-Chair of Peace Women Across the Globe. She has received high praise for her poem entitled Kyunki main ladki hoon, mujhe padhna hai ( Because I am a girl I must study) her other feminist works and children's books, some of which have been translated into nearly 30 languages, Additionally, Bhasin is the South Asia Coordinator of One Billion Rising, a global campaign dedicated to ending rape and sexual violence against women.
