This session will be an open space for discussion on new and emerging issues such as data collection, privacy, LGBTQ shelter management, the place of shelter services in the UN Sustainable Development Goals architecture, workplace sexual harassment, institutional abuse, and more.

Plenary 2: Art and Advocacy

Venue: Rm 301

To touch minds and hearts for action and change requires touching people on an emotional level, and one of the best ways to is through the arts. This plenary will discuss issues of using the arts to stop gender-based violence, sexual harassment in our workplaces, changing opinion and even raising money!

Plenary 3: New methods in shelter management & social work

Venue: Rm 301

This session will challenge participants to think out of the box about protecting survivors by looking at innovative systems, integration of resources, and services that meet the diverse needs of survivors. We will be debating the question of whether we need shelters, or whether we can move to other ways of preventing violence at home.

Plenary 4 : Policy & Legislation

Venue: Rm 301

Good public policy frameworks and legal systems can lay the foundations for integrated and comprehensive approaches to ending violence against women. This session will critically examine international standards and goals, explore innovative strategies to improve accountability and coordination, and identify laws and policies that help protect victims and end abuse.

Plenary 5 Equality and economic empowerment

Venue: Rm 301

Economic empowerment of survivors was identified as a key issue at the 3rd World Conference of Women’s Shelters. This session will look at strategies to increase the productive earning power of women in ways that enable inclusive community development, reduce poverty and violence, and empower women and girls.

Study tours

Conference participants may choose one of the 11 routes for study visits to relevant shelter, DV protection, community housing, and NGOs in the southern Taiwan area. The tours will be conducted concurrently and organized in partnership with the organization to be visited.
